Student Meal ProgramA Message from SCCS Food Services - Surf City Cafes

We will continue to support and provide food for all our students, ensuring that everyone has access to healthy and appealing school meals. All meals are free of charge for any student 18 years old and younger.

We are currently working with our local, regional and statewide farmers, ranchers, and producers to continue to provide the highest quality and the best nutrition possible through speed scratch and scratch cooked meals when possible, maintaining the high standard set by our wellness policy and the State and Federal regulations. We will continue to be a proud member of CALIFORNIA THURSDAY and provide California grown and produced meals every Thursday.

To provide physical distancing unfortunately we will need to discontinue all farm to table salad bars at this time. However, we plan to provide a variety of premade popular salads and sides. All fruit and vegetables will be served whole or prepackaged in individual containers or served hot with an entrée.

All employees have been trained on health and safety protocols, including correct application of disinfectants, and maintaining physical social distancing. All standard operating procedures for sanitation of school kitchens, cafeterias, food warehouses, and central production kitchens have been reviewed and updated as our student’s safety is the highest priority.

Our work with community partners and Second Harvest Food Bank will continue to provide additional resources with food insecurities. We will continue to serve all students’ healthy meals including meals for the weekend.

Services Offered
Breakfast and Lunch will be provided for both in-person and distance learning days, including weekends and holidays. All farm to table salad bars will be closed until further notice. A variety of fresh fruit and vegetables will be offered daily. All non-packaged items such as fresh fruit and vegetables will be portioned and placed in a student tray or pre-bagged (grab and go style) by the Food Service Worker to eliminate cross contamination. All entrees will be pre-packaged by manufacture or Central Kitchen to ensure complete safety. Students will be handed a prepared meal at the serving window or at the designated point of service.

Student Protocols
We do ask the all students follow the school district health and safety protocols. Face masks must be worn by all students for service. 6ft social distancing floor stickers will show students where to stand as they wait for their turn, one way arrows will give directional instruction to ensure students do not congregate.

A/B Alternating School Schedule
Meal service will vary depending on grade span and school location.

Elementary
Both lunch and breakfast for the next day will be bundled and served together. Orders will be taken daily by the teacher for that day's lunch. Escorted by their teacher, during the designated lunch period your student will be handed a prepared meal at the serving window or at the designated point of service. Students will then proceed outdoors with their class to eat a socially distance lunch.
All meals for distance learning days must be requested by 5am on the last day of in-person attendance through our online ordering system. Meals will be packed for the distance learning days and then delivered to the classroom at the end of the day.
