Hello Soquel High School Community,

I trust this note finds you safe, healthy, and well!

I would like to reach out to our Soquel High School community to let you all know we are in this together! While we did not expect such drastic changes to our school experience, we will use this time to strengthen our school community. We’ve seen references in various letters, emails and social media posts to the phrase “We Are Soquel”. In these uncertain times, I believe this to mean that we are united. We are committed. We are compassionate. Most importantly, it means we are inclusive! It will always be a “Great Day to be a Knight”, no matter the circumstance!

I want to remind our students and parents to take a deep breath during this transition. We are all here to support you with your needs. Please reach out to me or any member of my administrative team and we will connect with you to support you and your needs. The Soquel High School Administrative Team contact info is listed below.
Additionally, I would like to acknowledge this has been a huge transition for our entire Soquel community. We all need to know it is okay to show ourselves a bit of grace during this difficult season we are in. We will get through this together and we are all here to support our students and families. Below are a few suggestions that may help us to stay connected.
  • Check the Soquel HS Website daily for important reminders and resources
  • Check the Santa Cruz City Schools main website daily for important information
  • Check the daily email/text communications sent to you from the Soquel HS Administrators
  • Subscribe and read the weekly “Knight Notes
  • Establish and maintain e-mail contact with teachers/staff
  • Establish daily access to Google Classroom for each teacher
  • Access the Soquel High School Distance Learning Weekly Schedule to help your student stay on track with their assignments
  • Follow Soquel High School on Social Media

Finally, I would like to relay my sincere gratitude to the Soquel High School Class of 2020 for their courage, strength, and resilience. I feel like I was just getting to know our Seniors when suddenly our school experience was drastically changed. Please know I am working diligently with staff to ensure you are afforded the “Senior Experience” you deserve. Seniors have already received a survey asking for feedback on Graduation planning, and I will keep you updated on our progress. It will be memorable, and it will be deserving of the Class of 2020. Hang in there Seniors (and all students), we will get through this together!

Thank you all for reading this message, and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Dear Soquel High School Families,

We hope you’ve enjoyed your Summer break with friends and family!. We look forward to welcoming students back to campus on Wednesday, August 21.

If you’ve recently been on campus, you may have noticed active construction occurring. It’s an exciting time for Soquel High as we are benefitting from upgrades and enhancements from previous school bond measures. Work has been underway all summer, but due to the multiple priorities around the district and the magnitude of the projects on our campus, the renovation will continue throughout the school year.

We realize that this can be an inconvenience at times, but in the end Soquel High will have state-of-the art classrooms, buildings, and other infrastructure. The safety and well being of our students and staff is a top priority. Additionally, we want to assure you that all attempts will be made to keep noise to a minimum so it does not detract from teaching and learning.

There will also be some staff displacements as building 100 is our focus during Fall 2019. Our Administration, Counselors, and various support staff will be temporarily housed in the 100 Building’s classrooms while the Administration/Counselor areas and library are being renovated. We anticipate moving back to our renovated locations in early November 2019.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time. My door is always open should you wish to discuss the work occurring on campus.

Respectfully,

Greg O’Meara
Principal

Dear Soquel High School Families,

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year. It’s an exciting time at Soquel High School, and it is an honor to serve as your new principal. Soquel High is a wonderful school with deep tradition, a committed team of teachers and a dedicated support staff serving our students and community.

I am eager to connect with students and families at Soquel High School, and look forward to opportunities to interact with our community. I would like to remind our school community that multiple exciting renovation projects on our campus are ongoing. Sequential classroom modernization, along with library and administration renovation will be in progress throughout the school year, but please know that the safety and well being of our students is a top priority.

Temporary locations for our Administration, Counselors, and support staff have been established in the 100 Building along the outside corridors, and clear signage will be in place to direct students and families upon the start of school. Throughout the year, teacher/classroom locations may shift to accommodate our renovation, but please know there will be minimal interruption in our learning environment.

Transparent communication is critically important to me as I know it is to our families. Our administration, which also includes Assistant Principal Jose Quevedo and Assistant Principal Derek Kendall, has an open door policy and we are excited about serving students, staff and families. Moreover, we value our teachers and staff, and are dedicated to working together to ensure our team has a service mindset. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for your student, and welcome your feedback and voice.

This year you can expect regular communication through our “Knight Notes”, as well as pertinent and timely information posted on our website. We are working to enhance our social media presence and you can follow us on Twitter (@SQHSKnights). I will also conduct regular “Community Coffee” with the Principal. The first one will be held Friday, August 30th @ 9:00 a.m. in our temporary administration office. I invite you to this informal meet and greet where we can discuss the new school year.

Thank you for your partnership with Soquel High School.
