MARV & CONNIE (PADRTA) TUTTLE  class of '67

MARV & CONNIE (PADRTA) TUTTLE '67  Marv fills a couple of roles at the aquarium: in the off-season, he's a volunteer diver in the kelp forest, where he takes a syphon four stories underwater to vacuum the pool floor-and can't resist entertaining visitors from behind the glass. Not long ago, an appliance repairman came to his house for service, and while he was there, told Marv that he was sure they'd met before. Marv had no memory of the encounter, but the repairman was adamant. When he returned a few days later to finish the job, he brought a photo with him. There were his kids, standing in front of the glass wall of the kelp forest with a diver posing behind them. Marv was the diver. As a team, Marv, his wife, Connie, and Yara are also aquarium tour guides. Because of Yara's steady, predictable personality, he's the perfect assistant when Marv gives tours to kids with disabilities that impact their abilities to stay focused. CLICK FOR FULL STORY

CONGRATS BRAD TOMPKINS

Brad Tompkins is stepping into his late father's shoes. The former Soquel High quarterback - whose father, Dewey, served as the Knights' first coach and held the position for 32 years - is taking over the program. Tompkins was announced as Soquel's new varsity football coach on Tuesday. "It's a dream," said Tompkins, who spent last season as an assistant at Soquel and called offensive plays.

A "fanatic" of the team at 3 years old when his father started the program, Tompkins later quarterbacked Soquel, graduated from Soquel and will now head coach at Soquel, where the football field is named in his father's honor. Tompkins becomes just the fifth head coach since the school opened in 1962 - and the second Tompkins. Click for full story
