All SCCAL Baseball
After a great season, our SHS Baseball Team had some major All-SCCAL Awards:  Robert Zuniga - Coach of the Year, Troy Miller - Player of the Year, and Fineas Del Bonta-Smith - Pitcher of the Year.  Catcher Kevin Armacost was also named First Team.  Congrats to them and the WHOLE Team!

SHS Senior Ashley Held took FIRST place in the Explorer women’s division at the National Scholastic Surf Association’s West Coast Regional Championships over the weekend (May 16) in Huntington Beach...her FIRST Regional title!  Way to go Ashley!


The Oregon Shakespeare Festival has announced that Patrick Pulpan and Sara Narragon will be attending the Summer Seminar, 2015, in Ashland, OR  They will travel to Ashland, OR to be at the Summer Seminar for two weeks in July and will see all of the offerings at Oregon Shakespeare Festival as well as participate in theatre training. Marissa Carr, a SHS student, who went to the seminar last year, will be returning as a senior counselor. Patrick and Sara were selected to round out the nationwide attendees, as only 65 are selected. Marissa is one of 8 returning "semmies" to assist with the program. Congratulations to Marissa, Patrick and Sara.

The Green Ways to School, A project of People Power of Santa Cruz County & The Hub for Sustainable Living has an-nounced the winner of this year's art con-test for their organization…. and it is Soquel High School student Matt Hohmann!

Matt’s winning design will be featured on hundreds of Bike to Work and School posters, t-shirts, and other promotional materials for Santa Cruz County! Matt will also receive a $100 prize for his stellar submission:

Congratulations to Branna Banks, one of our outstanding Counselors, for winning The McDaniel Foundation Counselor of the Year Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership and service in the field of Counseling.  This Award is given to only one Counselor in the ENTIRE state of California each year and Ms. Banks is the 2015 winner!  This is an incredible honor and well-deserved achievement.  Kudos and thank you Ms. Banks for your hard work and dedication.


Congratulations to the Band and Choir on their Awards during the recent Band Trip
  • Concert Choir earned Silver and 2nd Place
  • Jazz Choir earned Silver
  • Jazz A Band earned Gold and 1st Place
  • Jazz B earned Silver
  • Concert Band earned Gold and 2nd Place
This is the first time Concert Band earned Gold. Also Soquel High won the Sweepstakes Award for best overall band and choir combined!

December 2014
Senior Marissa Carr has been invited back to the Summer Seminar for Juniors for the Oregon Shakespeare Company in July of 2015 as a senior counselor! This is a huge honor for Soquel High School and for Marissa Carr as 65 students nationwide take part in this seminar in Ashland, Oregon.

Congratulations to Marissa Carr for her accomplishment in Theater, and for Soquel High School for this recognition.


Good Sportsmanship - From Knights Notes 10/19/14
The referee from the King Academy football game last week called the Soquel Administration to complement our entire football team for being  genuine  men with good leadership, maturity and enthusiasm despite losing to a larger physical team. He also noted that the Center, Brett Mayfield and the Defensive Left Tackle #76 Sam Bardwell were especially noteworthy. Congratulations go out to the team and their coaches, including their head coach, Brad Tompkins for their good sportsmanship.


HOMECOMING
Thanks to all of the amazing volunteers -- including parents, students, and staff--who worked to make Homecoming 2014 a success.  Additionally, thank you to all who contributed financially, from float supplies to decorations to dance refreshments.  SHS and the floats all looked terrific.

Congratulations to the entire court:  Nikki Baker & Mikey Threet, Carla Diaz & Joe Martin, Natalie Diaz & Cade Gotthardt, Hannah Frankl & Matt Hohmann, and Alli Walters & Ramon Zambrano, and a special congrats to Matt Hohmann & Hannah Frankl, king and queen for 2014.  Finally, the juniors, class of 2016, have retained their float building title with their Jungle Book themed float.  Well done, everyone!
