HIGHLIGHTS FROM RANDY PECK COURT DEDICATION

Thank you all for the wonderful homecoming week! We brought back the tradition of class floats for the annual parade through Soquel Village. The class of '69 and classes from the '80s joined the parade with their own floats. Thank you Alumni! The Junior Class took home bragging rights for float of the year with their '80s inspired theme. Victories were won by all three Soquel football teams. Congratulations mighty Knights! The attendance of Soquel High's 50 year Homecoming Celebration was huge with many alumni filling the stands.  Randy Peck Court Dedication and homecoming dance, truly made this one of the best homecomings on Record. The dedication of "Randy Peck Court" was quite an emotional and happy occasion followed by a BBQ enjoyed by everyone! Shout out to Richard Wygant, event coordinator, for his endless hours of hard work, SHF, staff, family and friends, and the Alumni Community!See photos and stories:

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Black Knight
The Soquel High Fund is looking for a volunteer team to take over the position of the Alumni Coordinator. To date we have created a solid foundation for future alumni building and wish to continue fostering this growth. We are looking for volunteers to help our alumni base grow for future communications regarding events. Talents needed include computer skills to maintain the alumni database and posting of the newsletter, acquiring information and creating the alumni quarterly news-letter, reaching out on Soquel High alumni websites and Facebook pages, and alumni representatives and  various events to help cultivate more members into our database. This is a great way reconnect with your classmates and other alumni while helping to bring the Soquel High Community together for the common goal to make Soquel High School the place to share the high school experience. GO KNIGHTS!     Congratulations
All County player of the Year-Fabiano Hale
Defensive MVP -- Kevin Kiff
In The Spotlight- Marcelos Adas
Marcelo AdasAfter 21 years, Marcelo Adas has retired from coaching water polo concluding his reign with a 225-4 record for Soquel High Adas excelled at winning. In fact, it can be said he did it better than any other coach in Santa Cruz County history. Under his leadership, the Knights claimed an 18 straight league championships and one Central Coast Section title. Adas announced his retirement to his players at the tournament finale against Carmel, 11-10, in three time overtime. Click here for full story .

Marcelo coached in Brasil for 4 Years (85-89) and started coaching at SHS in 1991. He has 2 daughters, - Liliana King-Adas  playing on the girl's water polo team and incoming freshmen, Viviane King-Adas who will be playing water polo next year.

Were there any particular years that stood out to you? Marcelo:

"1995 after beating Harbor first time in 13 years, they lost league. 1999 CCS runner up , Ryan Chapatte CCS MVP (99) and The 2001-2002 team that won CCS and was considered number one in Nor-Cal and took 2nd on the unofficial State Tournament, only behind Long Beach Wilson, and I was CCS Honor coach of the year". Fondest memories? "I think the teams that marked the most memories

were teams that we traveled together in the off season...we had teams that went to Hawaii, Croatia-Hungary, and Brazil where we were more friends than coaches relationship".Student/Teacher stand outs?"Students that stand out...there were many.... but I think the players that came back after college and started to work with me would be the ones. They came back with fresh College knowledge and pass it on to the kids along with being role models in the community.I have to name Aaron Silberman, my player in the first two years at Soquel (91-92), he was my assistant and JV for Soquel for many years ...then he went on to be SC High Head coach, and now is a teacher/coach in Sacramento Area. Russel Simpkins who came back right after UCLA, became Soquel JV Coach and now has been voluntary helping with the varsity team for the past two years. But for the longevity and WP results I'd say is Ryan Chapatte (our girls head coach,) who has been bringing our Soquel Girls team to many Championships (I'd say even when they were underdogs they won....on coaching)..., coaching my daughter and doing a amazing job with challenge groups of girls....I have a immense respect for him ....and the others that did well."Any words of wisdom you would like to pass along? 'words of wisdom.....that is the hard one.....'"What ever you do, do it with "Raça" (in Portuguese) Raça means put your head, your soul, your passion, your love, your life in it, every-time. You will succeed!!! We did! Win league 18 years, qualify 20 years for CCS. Highest ranked Public School in CCS for many years. Beat schools with way more players, traditions, better facilities....For many many years "Play with Raça" was the fundament of my program. Another great passion in Marcelo's life is Wax'em. As the director of Soquel Wax-em Club for over 20 years Marcelo Adas' Wax'em Water Polo club has produced top ranked teams and athletes. The talent that emanates from the club, as well as the national and regional coaching awards he has received, is evidence of his ability. All SCCAL programs benefit from Adas' dedication to the sport and its athletes. From Aptos to Scott's Valley, it's difficult to find a top player that has not been influenced by Marcelo, and many had their first water polo experience within the club's pre-high school program. Beyond high school, dozens of his athletes have gone on to play in college, and numerous have achieved All-American status and won NCAA championships.
