The Soquel High Sports Foundation(501c3), SSF, (not affliated with the Soquel High Fund) and its members are always hard at work. The goal -- making capitol improvements to our football stadium. Some of those improvements came to be this school year!!! The Dewey Tompkins Sports Stadium now has a beautiful new Blue and Gold Entrance Gate along with the Dewey Tompkins Touch Stone (SHS Football tradition). Next time you are in the neighborhood drive on up and take a look.

Future goal is to continue the capitol improvements to include new bathrooms and a new snack bar followed by a Wall of Fame and a brick paver patio picnic area. The SSF is looking for your help to complete this project. Please go to www.soquelsports.com

SOQUEL GIRL'S VARSITY SOCCER!

After finishing third in regular season play, the girls Varsity soccer team went to CCS this year for the first time in six years. They played PAL League champs, Capuchino High in the first round, dominating and winning 2-0. Soquel played the #2 seed, Live Oak High from Morgan Hill in the quarter finals on Saturday 2/26. After battling for the full 80 minutes, the score remained tied at 1-1 sending the game into two ten minute halves of overtime. With still a tie, both teams begin a penalty kick shoot-out. The game was finally decided in the 11th round of penalty kicks, when Soquel missed, losing to Live Oak. It was an incredibly long battle with a ton of heart and effort. Soquel Girls' Varsity soccer is only losing one senior this year and will be ready to come back even stronger next season!

Hello Dolly

Original Program, Circa 1973

Take yourself back to 1973, Richard Nixon is President, Elvis Presley's concert in Hawaii is the first worldwide telecast by an entertainer that is viewed by more people than that of the Apollo moon landings andthe musical"HelloDolly" was performed by the Soquel High School Drama class. With our very own Caren(Conway) Spenceras "Dolly Irvine".

There are two acts and the first is a street scene in New York City in the 1890's at Grand Cental Station and ends at Vandergelder's Feed Store.

This musical was one of many programs during the 1970's includingMusic Man and Fiddler On The Roof. The Theatre Dept. worked with the "Home Economics Dept". designing costumes that were stunning! There were full time teachers in each department (Ms. Helen Oretski - Drama), who devoted incredible amounts of evenings and weekends for all those involved to flourish. Below is from the "Hello Dolly" program I am sure you will recognize many names!

Synopsis:

The Drowsy Chaperone started as a spoof of old musicals written by friends for the wedding of Martin and his wife, Janet. It is an homage to American musicals of the Jazz Age, examining the effect musicals have on the fans who adore them. The Man in Chair, seeking to cure his "non-specific sadness," listens to a recording of a fictional 1928 musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone. As he listens, the characters appear in his dingy apartment, and it is transformed into a Broadway set, complete with sparkling furniture, painted backdrops and glitzy costumes.

The concept is that the audience is listening to the musical on an old LP. With mix-ups, mayhem and a gay wedding (fun), that's just what this show is-fun! The story is hilariously predictable, silly and sassy and with the marriage performed by an aviatrix. One can leave the theatre feeling terrific, humming memorable tunes or whistling the overture.
